Real marketing starts after the ad click

Bringing people in with ads is only the start. Sales come from the flow that runs from ad → landing page → your own online store → first-party data → CRM.

Turn on ads and people come in. But whether those people buy, come back, and buy more isn't decided by the ad. It's decided by what comes after it. Marketing's center of gravity is shifting away from “one more ad” and toward designing the flow that runs from ad → landing page → your own store → data → repeat purchase.

Your ad and landing page should carry one message

When what the ad promises doesn't match what the landing page shows, the traffic you worked hard to bring in walks right back out. On the other hand, simply matching the ad's headline, offer, and CTA on the landing page can lift conversion rates significantly. In one case, without changing the creative or the targeting, aligning the message alone more than doubled the conversion rate and cut the cost per conversion nearly in half.

  • Ad headline = first line of the landing page (the same words reassure visitors that they're in the right place)
  • Ad CTA = landing page button text (if it says “free diagnosis,” keep it “free diagnosis” all the way through)
  • More than half of traffic is mobile—the message has to match on the first screen, before anyone scrolls

As cookies get blocked, the weight shifts to your own data

Safari and Firefox already block third-party cookies by default, and together they account for more than 1 in 3 browsers in the US. Approaches that infer behavior from other companies' data keep getting narrower. Instead, the data customers give you directly—email addresses, purchase history, accounts—is first-party data: the most accurate, the safest under privacy rules, and in no danger of disappearing.

That's why your own online store matters more and more. If you sell only on marketplaces, the customer data belongs to the platform. Sell on your own store, and who bought what, and when, stays with you as an asset. That asset fuels your next round of marketing.

Upsell the customers in your store based on who they are

Once first-party data builds up, you can segment customers instead of lumping them together. First-time visitors, people who only added items to their cart, one-time buyers, and frequent buyers each need a different message and a different product (upsells and cross-sells). Instead of showing everyone the same banner, suggesting the right “next step” for each group is what makes the difference in conversion.

Repeat purchases are built in CRM

The cost of acquiring new customers keeps rising. Getting existing customers to come back is far cheaper. Post-purchase emails, notifications, and loyalty programs—in other words, CRM marketing—are what drive repeat purchases. If ads bring “one-time revenue,” CRM brings “recurring revenue.”

Ads are only the beginning. Sales come from the flow that connects your landing page, your own store, your data, and CRM.

Dongle Media Lab starts by diagnosing where this flow is leaking. Are your ad and landing page messages out of sync? Are your own store and first-party data ready? Do you have a plan for repeat purchases? Then we connect you with specialists for the point where things are stuck, so a single ad click turns into recurring revenue.
